National Month Awareness Month Has Come and Gone With Little Fanfare |
|||||||||||||||||||||||
April 26th, 2009 Well, March has come and gone and April is soon to be. Few seemed to know that March had been officially designated National Month Awareness Month by a special act of Congress earlier in the year. "We really didn't see a significant heightening of awareness of months and how important they are to us", said a frustrated Biff Teterhuus, Month advocate and lobbiest for the important new initiative. "We had hoped to achieve something on the order of recent campaigns like last November's impressive National Pinniped Month where hundreds of thousands of people had publicly vowed to think more about walruses and such like." There had been a lot of discussion on shortening the duration of the so-called 'awareness period' to something like National Month Awareness Week or even National Month Awareness Day in the hopes that a short, concentrated effort would bring better recognition to months and all they do for us. After all, Stoat Week had been a smashing success by all accounts, raising precious awareness for some very precious and well-deserving vermin. "It was short and sweet" said Stoat Week organizer Martin F. Erretson, of the Under the Carpets Foundation, "so the excitement didn't dissipate as tends to happen with the month-long observances." Still it was feared that shortening the awareness period would cause confusion with National Week Awareness Month and National Day Awareness Week, to say nothing of National Awareness Conciousness Day.

This field trip intended to observe National Month Awareness Month had to be cancelled when no one could think of anywhere to go, since a month is more of a time than a place, really. |

This child celebrates National Month Awareness Month by arranging and re-arranging non-descript plants endlessly on the kitchen table, perhaps one of the few that "really gets it." |
