Crowds at the Oceanarium in Topeka, Kansas first expressed amazement, then utter dismay as dolphins appeared dressed in lederhosen to perform what was meant to be the grand finale of an afternoon marine show that had included harbor seals, killer whales and a small boy swimming on the back of a giant sea turtle.

There was some uncertain clapping when the dolphins first appeared, but this quickly gave way to stunned silence punctuated now and then with shrieks of astonishment as the dolphins began to go about their normal routine.

"I heard crying, really more like weeping" said one patron, who seemed anxious to leave.

A man in his forties became physically ill at the sight and had to be escorted down from the stands.

Kippers the Dolphin seemed oblivious to what was happening in the crowd and performed his tricks flawlessly, with perhaps more than his usual elan.
