March 15th, 2009 The new Economic Stimulus Package is set to revitalize the economies of the Great Plains states by providing 80 billion dollars for the construction of an extensive cable car transportation system. The bright yellow cable cars will use the existing network of telephone poles and power lines to traverse the huge expanses of the Great Plains efficiently in order to bring much needed commerce and tourism to the area. As the proposed hub of the giant cable car network, Topeka, Kansas will see the construction of a huge cable car mast on the top of Dempsey Tower in downtown Topeka. This mast will allow the cars to be drawn from near and far. |

This new transportation system didn't get added into the stimulus package without a fight. A huge spending project that only benefits the Great Plains states was not popular with the senators from East Carolina, until the deal was sweetened by including a 300 million dollar earmark to provide funds to the state for the badly needed upgrade of thousands of antiquated 'scary farmer' signs. These 'scary farmer' signs, so-called because they are primarily used to scare children away from golf courses, still depict a 1950's-era farmer riding a tractor. Several designs have been proposed to replace the old signs (see below). |

The winning design selected for the new signs, is known simply as "Ol' Blunderbuss 'n Buckshot." |

One of the finalists in the competition for the new sign, the "Evil Quackmonster Tractor" was ultimately rejected as being a little too frightening for children. One fascinating aspect of this design is that the duck's head was made by simply flipping the farmer's head on the old design. |
