Huge Hitherto Unknown Mountain Range Discovered in Nebraska

March 21st, 2010

Long considered some of the dullest states in the Union topographically speaking, Nebraska and Kansas apparently now have something to really boast about. It was discovered late in February of this year by the flight crew of a Deltwest 727, when pilot Biff Northpub suddenly looked up from tweeting on his Bifftronica mobile device long enough to get his bearings and realized the flight had strayed far from it's normal path.

"Planes just don't fly over this area of central Nebraska and Kansas. Its always been a no-fly zone. The feeling was that the sheer tedium of the terrain below would cause pilot fatigue-related accidents. But this time when we looked down, we saw these amazing mountains below us, that's when we realized that we weren't in Colorado no more."

Some experts speculate that the lush 'Land of Ioway', a sort of Shangri-La paradise long discounted as merely a fanciful myth, may actually reside in a hidden valley nestled somewhere in the vastness of this range.

The "Grand Topekans" cut a wide swathe through Nebraska and northern Kansas. Since ancient native american times, the surrounding featureless prarie was considered too boring to travel through, delaying the discovery of this impressive mountain range until the 21st century.

Endless plains suddenly give way to majestic snow-covered peaks somewhere in central Nebraska.

The flat top of Totomanjaro soars to 20,533 feet above sea level. Climbing the treacherous south face (seen on the right hand side in this photo), has never been attempted.

Many a Nebraskan farmer has fallen asleep at the wheel after a monotonous afternoon of prarie farming, hours later plowing his tractor into the endless foothills of the Grande Topekans and disappearing forever from the sorrowful plains.
