Puppy Rights Activists Express Concern for Over Inappropriate Usage of "Puppy" |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
May 17th, 2009 Puppy Rights Activists are expressing considerable concern over what they believe is society's increasingly inappropriate use of the word puppy. Long a slang term of tradesmen and hobbyists to express a certain pride in various small and powerful tools in their possession, the Puppy Rights community has tolerated this usage but has never been particularly fond of it. Now, they fear the implications of what they see as a growing tendency to use the word to refer to objects that are outrageously incompatible with the warm fuzzies they feel are at the heart of puppyness. "You've got people calling huge mining trucks 'puppy', that's going way to far", sez Biff Gepid of SCOOPER*, a Puppy Rights group in the Portland, Oregon area, "this is really distorting society's image of puppies." The highly publicized mining truck incident proved to be a flashpoint for the controversy, and the mining company involved did offer to 'fuzzify' some of their larger trucks (see below) so they could continue to use the term. But then the unthinkable happened, a French physicist working on the Large Hadron Collider in Cern was overheard to remark, "Cette petite droite de chiot ici produira un boson de Higgs toutes les quelques heures."

A worker can be excused for saying, "This little puppy will trim up this flange in no time flat", according to the Puppy Rights community. |

"I'll have this puppy spinning at 2300 rpm by the time I'm done here", which this worker muttered under his breath, is pushing the usage envelope a bit. |
