Stick Insects on a Stick a Big Hit This Year at Minnesota's State Fair |

August 16th, 2009 Minnesota State Fair goers are in for a real treat this year. The fair is well-known for it's vast array of bizarre foods on a stick like deep-fried candy bars on a stick, foot long corn dogs on a stick and even tater tot hotdish on a stick. Entrepreneurs have added a new item that's sure to please: Stick Insects on a Stick. "There are certain advantages to stick insects as a fair food," sez Biff Entomolo, "first and foremost - they come with their own stick. This is a significant cost-savings for us." Well-know for his innovative fair foods, last year Biff introduced a unique treat, deep-fried dark matter on a stick. There were some problems with this food as people complained of mouth burns. Initially it was thought that this was a result of unbridled dark energy, but later it was realized that the grease was just too hot. This year Biff is offering a variety of stick insects and mantises at his booth. "Technically speaking," Biff sez, "mantises are not stick insects, as they don't belong to the order Phasmatodea, but people don't seem to mind." "And the praying mantis has one plus that the other insects don't have - it's the only creature that can offer a table prayer for itself and the consumer before being eaten." |
